  • Conference on Women Voices in Community Reconciliation: Establishing a diverse taskforce to enhance women’s participation Jan 15, 2018

    Baghdad - Over one hundred Iraqi women from different backgrounds and governorates agreed to establish a taskforce to enhance the role of women in community reconciliation, concluding a high-level conference held in Baghdad on 7 December 2017. The Implementation and Follow-up on National Reconciliation Committee (IFNRC) and the United Nations Development Programme jointly organized this conference under the patronage of the Office of Iraq’s Prime Minister, represented by the President of IFNRC, Dr. Mohammed Salman Al-Saadi.

    Baghdad- On 22 October 2017 in Baghdad, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) organized a workshop, to discuss the role of women in community reconciliation in the Governorate of Diyala. The Implementation and Follow-Up National Reconciliation Committee (IFNRC) and UNDP’s Support for Integrated Reconciliation in Iraq (SIRI) project jointly facilitated the workshop, with the generous support from the United Kingdom.

  • The Netherlands increases its support to stabilize newly liberated areas in Iraq Dec 17, 2017

    Baghdad – The Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands has contributed an additional US$ 14.2 million (€ 12 million) to UNDP’s Funding Facility for Stabilization (FFS), which finances fast-track initiatives to stabilize areas liberated from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). The Netherlands is currently the fourth largest donor supporting stabilization work in Iraq, with a total contribution of over $42 million.

    Baghdad – The Government of the Federal Republic of Germany has contributed an additional US$ 94 million (€80 million) to two major UNDP programmes that are helping to stabilize newly liberated areas – the Funding Facility for Stabilization (FFS), which finances fast-track initiatives in areas liberated from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and the Iraq Crisis Response and Resilience Programme (ICRRP), which promotes recovery and resilience-building. This latest instalment brings Germany’s total contribution to both programmes to $263.2 million, making it the top supporter of UNDP’s work in this area.

  • UNDP trains a pool of civil society master trainers on training assessment and reporting Dec 13, 2017

    Istanbul- “We now have improved knowledge of tools and standards of assessment and reporting on training activities.” This is what one representative of civil society organizations (CSOs), Mrs. Etimad Al-Azzawi, said at the conclusion of a two-day training of master trainers held in Istanbul on 17-18 November 2017. “We used to conduct assessments randomly, but now we are able to proceed within a framework and open space for participation and interaction with other master trainers,” she added.

  • UNDP is helping to strengthen criminal defence in Iraq Dec 13, 2017

    Baghdad- On 25 November 2017, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) conducted a seminar and workshop in Baghdad for 30 senior criminal defence lawyers of the Iraqi Bar Association. Operating since 1933, the Iraqi Bar Association is a well-established organization with around 107,000 members.

  • 300 young Iraqis introduced to innovative tools to address development challenges Dec 13, 2017

    Baghdad– Over 300 participants, mostly youth, gathered in Baghdad on 12-14 October 2017 to participate in UNDP’s Innovation for Development workshop. Design Thinking and Lean Start-up methodologies were introduced as innovative tools to identify local development challenges and find solutions linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Iraq has adopted in early 2016.

    Erbil- Key Ministers and officials from the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KR-I) alongside representatives of the private sector, civil society, labour unions, the international community, donors and development agencies convened at a high-level conference yesterday in Erbil on E-Governance and Public Service Centres. The Ministry of Interior of the KR-I organized the conference under the auspices of the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, H.E. Mr. Nechirvan Barzani, and with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
